In their article they highlight the various events of Homecoming TT as well as our mission as a non-profit to foster harmonious and systematic engagement between the (T&T) Diaspora through research, recognition and engagement. “Trinbago Diaspora Outreach Network (TDON), an incorporated non-profit organisation based in Trinidad and Tobago, recently launched its first Homecoming Campaign commemorate the 60th Anniversary of this country’s independence.
TDON’s mission is to foster harmonious and systematic engagement between the (T&T) Diaspora and communities in Trinidad and Tobago through research, recognition and engagement.
The organisation’s Founder and Chair is Dr. Andre Phillips.
The theme of this year’s event is designed to heighten visitor expectations to Reconnect, Rediscover and Rejuvenate. This theme resonates with TDON affiliates in the USA and the UK, especially the TT diaspora groups overseas, with representation on the governing board of the nonprofit organization.
TDON’ Diary of Events will include ‘Serv-a-thon’, as members and other individuals attend to the health needs of children Specific areas of focus include vision screening and hearing tests for children with special needs.
Other aspects of Homecoming TT will include tours of the Moruga Museum, visits to La Brea, Pitch Lake, and a trip down the island on a catamaran.
In Tobago, visitors can opt for the Wind ward Tour which includes stops at coastal villages from Hope to Charlottesville. The Leeward Tour will take visitors to scenic villages from Plymouth to L’Anse Fourmi.
The third aspect of Homecoming TT is a Diaspora Convention in Tobago at Mt Irvine Hotel. This event will be held on Sunday 28th August and feature an interfaith service in the morning, followed by cultural activities in the afternoon session billed as The Authentic Cultural Showcase. An appearance of the Moriah Ole Time Wedding cast will close off the day’s proceedings.
The remaining days of the convention will consist of conference sessions and panel discussions Contributors from the US, Canada and UK, as well as the Caribbean, are expected to join locally based professionals in a mix of physical and virtual interactions. A small exposition of Tobago products is also being planned for the final day proceedings.
Outside of these scheduled activities, arranged by Trinbago Diaspora Outreach Network, Trinbagonians residing abroad will be encouraged to attend other events that mark the 60th anniversary of our Independence. The second edition of Homecoming TT is proposed for the first two weeks of July 2023.”
