On Sunday, July 7th, the Trinbago Diaspora Outreach Network (TDON), a not-for-profit organization based in Trinidad and Tobago hosted its first annual Diaspora Patriot Awards Dinner at the Cara Hotel in Trinidad. It was an evening of reflections, reminiscence and excellence as TDON paid homage to 13 outstanding individuals and organizations for their contributions to philanthropy and cultural promotion of Trinidad and Tobago. The event, drew attendees from the USA, Canada, and the UK, showcasing the global reach of Trinidad and Tobago’s Diaspora community.

The prestigious awards recognized more than a century of combined philanthropic efforts and significant years of cultural and global promotions. Ten awardees were honored for philanthropy, while three received recognitions for the global initiatives.

Amongst the notable recipients was the Trinidad and Tobago Alliance of North America, Inc. represented by Board member Lynette Richardson. The Alliance is the oldest functioning organization present and was highlighted for its longevity of Diaspora commitment to their homeland. Other established organizations honored included the Naparima Alumni Association of Canada (founded in the 1980s) represented by its President Peter Mohan, and New York’s based Trinbago Progressive Association represented by President Stephen Isaac. Adding some exuberance and regality to the proceedings was Angela Cooper, Founder and Lead of the Coral Reef Experience, LLC.
