Trinidad has over one hundred waterfalls scattered throughout the island. Most of the waterfalls are concentrated within the northern range where many main river watercourses begin on the island.
The Edith Falls is located in Macqueripe, Chaguaramas in the Western Peninsula of Trinidad. It is the tallest waterfall in Trinidad. It is a 30-minute hike just off the Macqueripe road to the Golf Club through an abandoned cocoa estate. During this 30-minute hike you may be fortunate enough to see a variety of wild life including Howler monkeys or Orange Winged Parrots in the trees before you arrive at this three-tiered 250-foot waterfall.
The Edith waterfall is best visited during the height of rainy season to get more than a trickle and mist of water at the bottom. The base of the waterfall is in an actual riverbed that you can bath in and to get to it, you must climb over some rocks at it’s base, but it is certainly worth the effort. This 30-minute nature hike takes you along a wide trail through an abandoned cocoa bean plantation, red heliconia’s, bamboo clusters, fishtail palms, an exotic rain forest as well as several tropical species of fauna indigenous to Trinidad. If you love nature and wild life the Edith Falls is definitely worth a trip.
