San Fernando Mayor Endorses Diaspora Homecoming

In a significant development, the University of Trinidad and Tobago’s South Campus was the scene of a historic media launch yesterday, heralding the much-anticipated Diaspora Homecoming 2024. This four-day extravaganza, set to unfold from July 4th to 7th, is poised to honor the rich tapestry of Trinidad and Tobago’s culture, history, and the remarkable achievements of its global diaspora.

Dr. Andre Phillips, esteemed founder and chair of the Trinbago Diaspora Outreach Network, unveiled the ambitious plans for this grand occasion. Beyond being a mere celebration, Diaspora Homecoming stands as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Trinidad and Tobago and the unbreakable bonds within the global diaspora community.

San Fernando, known for its dynamism and cultural vibrancy, has been chosen to host the third iteration of this biennial event. The city is expected to come alive with a series of events that not only celebrate the nation’s heritage but also foster connections among the widespread Trinbagonian community.

Visionary Leadership

San Fernando Mayor Robert Parris graced the launch, expressing his enthusiasm for the event’s positive impact on the city. Drawing from his personal diaspora experiences, Mayor Parris emphasized the profound role of the diaspora in national development. His endorsement resonated with the theme of the upcoming two-day diaspora conference: “Diaspora Resources – A Tool for Igniting Development in Trinidad and Tobago.” The conference, scheduled for July 5th and 6th at San Fernando City Hall, promises insightful discussions and collaboration. You can read his full remarks by clicking here.

Cultural authenticity takes center stage with events like the Panyard lime on Friday, July 5th, and a lively party boat experience on Saturday night.

Exploring T&T’s Heritage

International guests will embark on an island tour, culminating in the prestigious Diaspora Patriots Award ceremony at the Cara Hotel Banquet Hall. Dr. Phillips officially announced the 15 award recipients, including seven TT groups operating in North America.
