Successful Multimillion Lifestyle Center in Tobago – Swift International

Diaspora Vignettes recently featured a conversation with Ms. Alana Grant, founder and president of Swift International Majuba Hill Lifestyle Center in Goodwood, Tobago. Grant’s story captures how members of the diaspora can transform their love for home into investments that create jobs, stimulate local economies, and deliver new opportunities for communities.

From Diaspora Vision to Local Reality

After more than 30 years abroad, Grant returned to Tobago in 2022, bringing with her a wealth of experience in nursing and holistic wellness. Adjusting from the fast pace of the U.S. to Tobago’s slower rhythm was a challenge, but her determination and patience paved the way for Swift International’s opening.

Her vision? To create a space where Tobagonians could pursue natural healing and holistic health, blending modern therapies with traditional wellness principles.

A Center for Holistic Health

Swift International Majuba Hill Lifestyle Center offers a wide range of therapies and services, including:

  • Hydrotherapy (using water and heat for healing)
  • Massage and foot therapy
  • Bema therapy
  • A signature body scan that identifies mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual imbalances
  • A fully equipped gym with an emphasis on education around the “laws of health” — nutrition, exercise, sunshine, temperance, fresh air, rest, and trust in divine power.

The center also runs programs where guests can spend weekends or up to 21 days on a “body holiday,” fully immersing themselves in wellness practices. With nine rooms available, it has become both a retreat and a community resource.

Serving Tobago’s Communities

Despite extensive promotion through media and outreach, many locals still describe Swift as a “well-kept secret.” Those who discover it often express surprise at such a facility existing in Tobago. The center has also reached beyond Goodwood—offering free health checks and educational programs as far as Charlotteville.

Expanding its footprint, Swift International now operates a plant-based restaurant in Scarborough, preparing fresh meals, breads, and smoothies daily, with delivery options. Plans are underway to reintroduce dining at the Goodwood location as well.

Diaspora Roots, Local Impact

Grant embodies the spirit of the transnational entrepreneur. While she manages responsibilities abroad, a dedicated team in Tobago ensures that Swift continues to grow. Her investment is more than financial—it’s cultural and social, creating employment opportunities and strengthening Tobago’s position in the emerging field of wellness tourism.

Her efforts were recognized when she became the first recipient of the Diaspora Patriots Award for Entrepreneurial Support. As she notes, her joy comes from service—helping people embrace wellness while building a sustainable, community-centered business.

Looking Ahead

Wellness tourism is gaining traction in Trinidad and Tobago, and Swift International is poised to be a flagship example of how diaspora investment can shape new industries. By marrying passion, expertise, and community service, Grant is proving that the diaspora’s contributions extend far beyond remittances—they are building institutions of health, culture, and opportunity in the homeland.

TDON is proud to showcase stories like these through Diaspora Vignettes. They remind us that when members of the diaspora invest their time, skills, and resources back home, they are not just creating businesses—they are building healthier, more vibrant communities.
